Microsoft Edge user agent for Windows 10 and 11

The main example uses Edge 156. For a log containing Edg/154.0.0.0, use the earlier version below. A reference string can reproduce a reported UA; it does not check the browser installed on your device.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/156.0.0.0 Safari/537.36 Edg/156.0.0.0

Edge 154 user agent example for older logs

Use the matching Chrome/154 and Edg/154 tokens when reproducing this older Windows Edge string. The main reference can advance without removing the earlier example.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/154.0.0.0 Safari/537.36 Edg/154.0.0.0

Why does an Edge user agent include Chrome and Safari?

Microsoft Edge uses Chromium's UA format and adds Edg/ on desktop. The Chrome and Safari tokens are compatibility markers; use the Edge-specific token to distinguish this reference from Chrome. Android Edge uses EdgA/ instead.

Windows NT 10.0 in the reduced UA does not distinguish Windows 10 from Windows 11. For the current browser, supported User-Agent Client Hints can provide additional platform information. Prefer feature detection when deciding whether an application feature is available.

How to check your own Microsoft Edge user agent

Open the checker in Microsoft Edge or run the following JavaScript in that browser's console. This reads navigator.userAgent; a pasted or copied example does not detect your own browser.

console.log(navigator.userAgent);

String breakdown

FragmentMeaning
Mozilla/5.0Historical compatibility token. Nearly every browser claims "Mozilla/5.0" so that old servers do not serve it broken pages.
Windows NT 10.0Windows NT kernel 10.0 — Windows 10 or 11 (the value is frozen at 10.0).
Win6464-bit Windows.
x64x86-64 (64-bit) CPU architecture.
AppleWebKit/537.36WebKit rendering engine, build 537.36. Chromium browsers keep this token for compatibility.
KHTML, like GeckoCompatibility note: the engine descends from KHTML and behaves like Gecko. Kept for legacy browser sniffers.
Chrome/156.0.0.0Chrome (or a Chromium-based browser), version 156.0.0.0.
Safari/537.36Safari/WebKit build 537.36 — a compatibility token, not the Safari version. Chromium browsers send it too.
Edg/156.0.0.0Microsoft Edge, version 156.0.0.0.
