Chrome on Android user agent: examples and frozen values

Copy a Chrome 154 Android reference string or compare the tablet and desktop-site examples. Android 10; K in a reduced UA does not identify the device's real Android version or model.

Why does a new phone report Android 10; K?

Chrome's reduced Android user agent replaces the Android version and device model with the fixed values 10 and K. Seeing these values does not establish that the phone runs Android 10, and K is not its model name.

This describes Chrome's reduced UA, not every Android app or browser. An app's embedded browser, an overridden string or a different browser can report another format.

Phone, tablet and desktop-site examples

The phone reference includes Mobile; the tablet reference above omits it. The desktop-site example reports a Linux desktop-style string. These are compatibility examples, not a reliable test of a device's physical size or identity.

Copy the format relevant to your test, or open the checker on the device to read the UA it actually exposes. A pasted log entry cannot reveal information that the sender omitted.

How to check the current browser's Android version and model

The checker's Client Hints section can show additional values when the current browser supports and supplies them. You can also run the code below in that browser's console; unavailable or empty values should remain unknown.

This reads the current browser. It cannot fill in the Android version or model for a different device's pasted UA. When testing application support, prefer checking the required feature directly.

const hints = navigator.userAgentData;
if (hints?.getHighEntropyValues) {
  hints.getHighEntropyValues(["platformVersion", "model"])
    .then(console.log)
    .catch(console.warn);
} else {
  console.log("User-Agent Client Hints are unavailable.");
}

String breakdown

FragmentMeaning
Mozilla/5.0Historical compatibility token. Nearly every browser claims "Mozilla/5.0" so that old servers do not serve it broken pages.
LinuxLinux kernel.
Android 10Frozen Android version in Chrome's reduced UA; this token does not establish the device's actual Android release.
KPlaceholder model "K" — Chrome on Android froze the UA and hides the real model (see Client Hints).
AppleWebKit/537.36WebKit rendering engine, build 537.36. Chromium browsers keep this token for compatibility.
KHTML, like GeckoCompatibility note: the engine descends from KHTML and behaves like Gecko. Kept for legacy browser sniffers.
Chrome/154.0.0.0Chrome (or a Chromium-based browser), version 154.0.0.0.
MobileMobile device marker — sites use it to serve the mobile layout.
Safari/537.36Safari/WebKit build 537.36 — a compatibility token, not the Safari version. Chromium browsers send it too.
